Closer to home nearby Northallerton, the ‘capital’ of North Yorkshire is an unspoilt , traditional market town and the local meats, cheeses and produce must be tried, or why not explore the county’s record office for researching family history? North Yorkshire County Council has it’s headquarters here in the Grade 1 listed Brierly Building near the station.
Just 5 miles away lies Thirsk, real life home of the fictional James Herriot, Veterinary Surgeon made famous through books and television.
But its the beautiful countryside, viewed from the windows of Well House that makes this a very special place to spend some time.
